When and why did you start training for fighting? At 16 years old, because I loved watching fights.

What ranks and titles have you held? European title and world title in kickboxing

Who is your favorite fighter and why? Alex is my favorite. Maybe because I know him so well, but his story, his career inside the ring and the Octagon, and the way he carries himself outside of competition all make him my favorite fighter.

Do you have any heroes outside of fighting? Many, but lately I’ve been studying Hannibal Barca of Carthage — a general known for his incredible tenacity, creativity, and strategic mind.

What would it mean for you to fight in the UFC? Challenging fights and very nice experiences

What fight do you consider to be the key fight in your career and why? My UFC debut, where I proved myself against Bekoev, a very skilled martial artist with a strong resume. I was a big underdog and finished the fight by TKO.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? University of Amsterdam. Organizational Sciences

What was your job before you started fighting? Security

Is there a cause that you want to use your platform for? Yes. I’m involved in efforts against bullying and abuse, and I hope to help more youth coming from difficult situations such as parental drug abuse or behavioral problems through a foundation called Moving Up.

Beyond a championship or money, what motivates you?  To provide, protect, and be present for my family first. Success in the sport helps me do that, and also allows me to help support the children that Moving Up works with — and hopefully many more in the future.

Favorite grappling technique: RNC

Favorite Striking technique: Right knee

Tell us about your life outside of fighting: I have a wife, a daughter who is 5, and a son who is 4. We recently moved to Connecticut in the United States. My dream is to build a homestead so my kids can grow up connected to animals and nature. I love traveling and seeing the world — that was one of the reasons I started fighting, and it definitely paid off (at least in air miles).
